JPG / PNG to WebP
Convert a JPG or PNG image to WebP, a format that is often smaller than JPG or PNG at similar visual quality. Adjust the quality and compare the file size before and after.
Result
Choose an image and select Convert to WebP. The result will appear here.
How to use
- Choose a JPG or PNG image from your device or drag it into the upload area.
- Set the WebP quality. Around 75 to 85 suits most photos.
- Select Convert to WebP and check the preview and file sizes.
- Download the WebP file.
Supported files and limits
- Input: one JPG or PNG image up to 25 MB and 50 megapixels.
- Output: a WebP image with the same width and height.
- Transparency in PNG files is kept in the WebP file.
- Photos taken on phones are rotated correctly using their orientation data. Metadata such as camera details and location is not kept.
What to expect
- WebP is often smaller than the original, but not always. The result shows the real size so you can compare.
- Lower quality gives a smaller file but can soften detail.
- Some older programs cannot open WebP files. Keep the original if you need to share the image widely.
- Your browser must be able to create WebP files. Current versions of Chrome, Edge and Firefox can.
Privacy
- Your image is processed in your browser. It is not uploaded to a server.
- No account is required.
Troubleshooting
- If the image does not open, make sure it is a valid JPG or PNG file.
- If you see a message that your browser cannot create WebP files, try another browser.
- If the WebP file is larger than the original, lower the quality or use the Image Compressor with a smaller maximum size.
